BM presentation, debating, "travelling-made-easy" and other things.
The week since I last wrote has been pretty eventful. The Interkuliyyah Debate also had its closing on Monday. Ah, on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Then, at 8pm (which was last night), the girls and I went to a sisters cultural night concert in CAC. In a few hours, I’ll be off home to attend my late grandfather’s tahlil.

Last weekend, I hardly had a break at all.
Took the LRT home and returned to Uni within less than 24 hours.
Had to prepare for a BM presentation on Monday with Shazwa and Amira (glad that one’s over with!)
We did one on ‘Perkembangan Teknologi Pengklonan Di Abad Ke-21’.
Sounds ‘skema’ right? Well that’s Bahasa Melayu Kejuruteraan for you!
Our lecturer commented that out materials seems as if we directly translated English words into malay words.
We denied this by saying, “Tak, puan. Banyak istilah saintifik, jadi tak boleh tukar sangat”.
The truth is – yeah, we did translate the whole thing as it is ;p
The downside of using English too much is that we tend to disregard our own mother tongue, I’m ashamed to say.
I have to improve my BM! Maybe sometime later, I’ll post a malay post…
MAYBE.
It was an all-econs final.
Yasad, Jun and Riasat’s team won. It was pretty interesting. The motion was about whether it is easier for Muslim world to create atomic bombs or substantial media in it forwarding its “message”.
Ironically, atomic bombs won. It was a close debate and the decision was a split of 4-3.
When the result of best speakers was announced, it was the matric people who went home with most of the RM60 Borders vouchers.
I was initially surprised that some of the prominent seniors in Gombak didn’t get top rankings. Even disappointed (and no, I’m not referring to me. I haven’t even been to as many trainings as I should here ;p)
But then again, I was also filled with pride for matric.
Because just a few months ago, I was there in that PJ centre trying to prove my worth as a debater. And that night, I can see my juniors doing just that.
Ps: Danial won the Inter-varsity Independence Day competition in Sabah too by the way. Yay for IIU!
Well, since he treated my girls and I to tea at the café yesterday… (haha…)
It’s all good =)
I went to meet my kuliyyah’s academic advisor on academic matters (obviously) with Izreen. We have a clearer propective of what we need to achieve and get in order to consider a change of course… or not.
I’m planning to get more professional advice on that one. I would hate myself if I regret my decision later… I’m also considering Econs now.
Man, why am I falling out of love with Engineering so much?
Those who requests to change to engineering has to go through so much s*** and here I am in the respectable course, contemplating on throwing it all away.
*sighs*
On slightly nicer things,
I participated in a public speaking competition by the riverside in conjunction with Ummatic Week. It was raining like crazy and I had a combo of diseases – fever + cough + flu + sore throat.
I gave one of the crappiest speech ever on this topic “Seeking knowledge is the best jihad” (i.e. no substance, mostly rantings) and wanted to just bury myself six feet underground… seriously. Because most of those who joined are debaters too.
Surprisingly, I still won 10 bucks (which is the 4th prize)… heh.
But maybe since I was so sick, I got pity votes ;p
Special thanks to Noi (who got me Panadol Actifast on the spot), Halimah and Khadijah (who served me drinks all throughout) and Michelle (whose empathy made me feel better in more ways than one. Heh).
When I returned to my room, I managed to pray Isya’ and then flatted out on bed til almost midnight.
It was bittersweet ;-)
I spent it running around most of the time with Amira and Ezrin.
It was the day fee for the semester’s due. So I had to make calls to parents and even banks to check account status (why oh why do I like to do things last minute? *knocks head*)
But, as for me, I managed to pay it on time anyway ;-)
*cheers for self*
Btw, Amira’s phone got stolen at the Finance Division… I hope whoever took it would return it soon. Poor thing =(
Later, I spent over 2 hours checking out the Ummatic Week exhibition by the riverside/CAC (grand hall) with Ashraf.
The exhibition is of different countries’ cultures, traditions and history with pictures and displays to highlight certain features.
It was the closest thing to “traveling” around the world as we could get right now… haha.
I drank tea in a Turkish tea set. Pretty!
Tasted very strong coffee at Jordan.
Discovered Comoros is the world’s number one Vanilla exporter.
Found out that Thailand has Bungee Jumping spots.
And Indonesia has hundreds of festivals per year.
Also, that Sri Lanka has an elephant orphanage.
Oh, I’ve never seen the types of weapon/guns produced in Pakistan until I saw this poster about them.
Plus, I never knew there was a country called Djibouti before… and now I do.
So, yeah, as you can see, I enjoyed myself at the booths =)
It was so much fun!
There were performances by sisters from different countries and we can’t help but dance/sing along to each one.
The energy flow was amazing!
The hall was also “sealed” from brothers, so we have the freedom to “make ourselves comfortable” (i.e. take off hijab) and many did this.
Everyone was so at home.
It felt like I was back in an all-girls school again that night, cheering like crazy for girls performing.
I think I’m going to perform something next year.
I’ve too much enthusiasm for it to only sit and watch.
So does Amira, Ez and Sofia it seems… haha ;D
InsyaAllah preparations are going smoothly since I can’t help out due to classes now.
Amidts the stress and excitement of Uni, I still do remember this man I love so much every single day… and I still miss him.
I still miss you, Atuk.
I hope all our prayers reached you… and will keep reaching you.
*amin*
